Year 6/7 Term Four Newsletter

Dear Students, Parents and CareGivers,

Welcome to Term 4, 2007. This is the last school term in primary school for our Year 7 students and an important term for consolidating their learning before they progress to secondary school.

The Year 7 Graduation Lunch will be held at The Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle, on Monday 10 December.

This term the students will be involved in the following activities;

*Art-there will be two art sessions each week. One of these sessions replaces the Italian lesson as our Italian teacher is no longer working at our school.

*Science-in keeping with the theme of Energy and Change, we will be studying recycling. The students will research materials that can be recycled, make a product from recycled materials and design a TV advertisement to promote their product. We will video the best advertisements for viewing later this term.

Physical Education-the students will participate in a multi-sports programme. I will negotiate the sports to be played with the students.

In English- this term we will be exploring components of the Viewing strand. Viewing focuses on developing the student’s critical literacy skills. Another aspect of English that we will be focusing on this term will be writing conventions and punctuation.

In Technology & Enterprise- we will be exploring the different systems that exist in our world, from basic human systems to systems that exist within our community.

The students should be congratulated on the outstanding research into different types of resources in Society & Environment last term. The students all chose different methods of presenting their research; however, all were completed to a very high standard. Keep an eye out on the website for the SOSE projects on Resources- they will be in the form of Podcasts and PowerPoint Presentations.

A special congratulations to Jessica S who has been accepted into Kalamunda SHS on an art scholarship-a great achievement. Well done Jess!

It is the final term of the year and the year 6/7 students are the leaders and role models of OGPS, it is essential that the behaviour of our class is impeccable, as the students in younger years look to the older ones for appropriate behaviour at this stage of the year.
