PP / Year One Cooking

Last week we were able to pick our first plants from our vegetable garden. We tried some Italian parsley and some snow peas and we cut some lettuce leaves to make cheese and lettuce sandwiches. We had them for afternoon tea in the garden. Nearly everyone loved them.

Year One Technology.

scarecrows 008 (Small).jpgHere we are with the scarecrows we made for technology. We had to draw a design and think of ways to scare away the crows. We put them in our new vegetable garden.

Welcome back Pre-Primaries and Year Ones

Welcome back everyone. Hope you are all rested and ready for our next year of learning. The children worked so well in their first week despite the P.P.s first day being very hot and their next day being wet, restricting their outside play. Year One homework will start week 2.

I enjoyed my time in Queensland and am looking forward to seeing the children again. The photo was taken at their assembly on the last day of Term 3. I have watched the video and think they all did a great job and so obviously enjoyed themselves.

National Water Week

http://www.ogps.wa.edu.au/images/DSC01907%20%28Small%29-thumb.JPGHave you ever used tissues when you've run out of toilet paper? Think again before you do this. As part of our National Water Week activities the Pre-Primaries did an experiment to see which breaks down more readily in water, tissues or toilet paper. We thought it wouldn't make much difference and were surprised to see that the tissues took much longer to break apart, whereas the toilet paper dissolved quite quickly. This means that using toilet paper is much better for our drains and wastewater systems and helps our environment.

The exciting things that have happened this week

http://www.ogps.wa.edu.au/images/reptile%2520park%2520chickens%2520pirates%2520044-thumb.jpgThis week in the Pre-Primary we have hatched four chickens. The children were fascinated to see how helpless the baby chickens were, and how quickly they developed.

Our silkworm eggs have also hatched into tiny black caterpillars so the great mulberry leaf search is on.

Today to celebrate 'P' week we dressed up as princesses and pirates and had a popcorn picnic.
