Orange Grove Primary School

Every Thursday afternoon from 1-2pm the Year 1 / 2 class has a maths activity session. During this time they participate in a variety of ‘hands-on’ activities such as:

• sand play (measurement),
• structured water play (measurement)
• board games and teacher made games (number)
• construction materials and blocks (spatial awareness)
• Dominoes, card games, etc.

The children rotate around all activities in groups. We have a couple of ‘mums’ who come in to help but would welcome anyone else who can spare an hour on a Thursday.

The children are all off to a good start with regards to organising their diaries and reading homework routines. As the reading books are becoming insreasingly more challenging, it is important to renmember that the key focus should be on enjoyment.
