FESA Visit.

http://www.ogps.wa.edu.au/images/firetruck-thumb.jpgEach year the local Fire Brigade comes to talk to the Year three about fire safety. They talk about what to do in an emergency situation and demonstrate the equipment they use in case of a house fire. This equipment can look quite scary and children have been known to hide from the firemen when they enter the burning house looking for them.

The class is made aware of what to do when faced with a fire in the home, i.e. know what the Fire Alarm sounds like, touch the door with the back of your hand in case it is hot, always have two exits from the room, don’t stop for anything and have a family meeting place where everyone knows to assemble in the event of a fire. This year we also practiced Stop – Cover - Drop – Roll if your clothing is on fire.

The firemen are always impressed at how knowledgeable the children are about fires. Your child will no doubt have come home to check out where the Fire Alarm is situated and where the Meeting Point is.

Always the most popular segment of the visit is looking over the trucks and their equipment. Last year this was cut short when they were called to a fire but we did see them go off sirens wailing which was quite exciting. This year we looked at all the equipments and got to play with the fire hoses. Everyone had a great time and lots of learning went on as well.
