Visit by the Life Education Van

(Written by the students in Room 3, photos by Cameron)

DSC02168%20%28Small%29.JPGOn Monday 13th of February 2006, the Year 4 / 5 class went to the Life Education van. It was at Orange Grove Primary School, next to the Year 1 / 2 classroom. Every classroom took it in turns to visit. It is the biggest van we have ever seen in the school.

First, we looked at a giant dummy named Tam. We tapped her body three times and she lit up. We touched her head, throat and her chest. It was so fun, it was the best Life Education van ever! We learnt about bullying, (our) bodies and drugs. We learnt about different types of medicines.

Amanda is a teacher. She is also Harold's friend. Amanda's family come from New Zealand. She knows a lot about the human body and drugs. She is very new to Life Education. She is blondish brown in hair colour. Amanda loves seeing children every day. Amanda is healthy.

DSC02163%20%28Small%29.JPGHarold is a giraffe. He lives in a box. Harold is sad because his best friend left the school. He has a diary. He tells jokes. Harold loves kids that are loud. He loves smiling. Harold hates the "p word" (puppet).

The van is cool because it has air-conditioning. It has lots of posters about health and bullying. You can write to Harold and he has a post box. There is a big picture of Harold on the side of the van.

Our first piece of group writing.

Check out the great report about our school's administration block (below). Each group in our class wrote and edited one paragraph. We will be reading this report as part of our first podcast sometime in the next two weeks.

Our New Administration Building

Newadminblock.JPGWritten by the students in Room 3 (photo by Rhiannon)

Dear parents, teachers, carers and students. The year 4 / 5 class had a live tour of the new office. We were the first class to go in. We asked Mrs Nottle how much it cost. It cost…. over $100,000. Well, that's heaps!

Our new admin block has a ramp for disabled people and stairs for easy access. The rooms also have easy access with two outside doors. There is new bitumen for parking spaces and paving for under the tree.

There are four rooms in the office. One is Mrs McHugh’s. One is Mr Wilson’s (the new Deputy Principal). One is Mrs Nottle’s and one is a meeting room. The meeting room is a kitchen too. The room has no furniture, apart from Mrs McHugh’s table. There will be new furniture in the room when its finished.

There are lots of windows in the new office. There is air-conditioning in all rooms. There are six phones to call the staff room and speak to parents. Mrs Nottle has a siren, but only uses it for emergencies. There is an emergency button for disabled people. Mrs Nottle hopes to put in a lovely water feature.

So, what’s going to happen to the old office? They are going to knock down the old wall in the office. It’s going to become a teacher’s workroom. The staff room is going to stay where it is.
