The Mystery of the Marie Celeste
One of the greatest maritime mysteries is that of the Marie Celeste.On December 4, 1872 it was found floating adrift in the Atlantic Ocean. The entire crew and the passengers had mysteriously vanished, never to be seen again.
The mystery has never been solved but the year 6/7 class have come up with some very interesting ideas. Here are some of their opening paragraphs.....
One still day, my papa Captain Benjamin Briggs, my mummy Sarah Jane Briggs, Sophie Margaret Briggs (me) and eight sailors, sailed off on a voyage over the Atlantic Ocean.We were going to deliver wines and liquors. Everyone on board was partying. My papa was laughing and enjoying company with the sailors. Mummy was playing the piano and then, suddenly, there was a screeching sound and a sailor came running in with tears staining his face. He cried, "my mate is dead!" I gaped in terror

One miserable day while sailing across the Atlantic Ocean aboard the Marie Celeste, Captain Benjamin and his wife Sarah and his crew were below deck dancing. Captain Benjamin climbed above deck for fresh air. Suddenly there appeared out of nowhere a glowing light around the ship. He heard voices whispering. He ran below deck to see if it was his wife and crew, but NO ONE WAS THERE. They had all vanished.....

One gloomy day on board the Marie Celeste, the Captain, his wife, his daughter and crew were just about to eat a lovely meal. Just then, the ship went rocking from side to side!! A vicious army of sea vampires climbed aboard. Boards clattered on the deck and loud foot steps were on their way down to the galley.....

After one long gloomy day, the crew from the Marie Celeste said "Goodnight " to each other and went to bed. Soon "Devil Day" began and the Marie Celeste started rocking from side to side. The crew woke up and the cook Jim ,and the Captain Benjamin Briggs rushed outside to see what was happening. When they looked around the Marie Celeste, everything was fine. All of a sudden, something rose from the ocean with big, red beady eyes and huge horns. Instantly, they realised it was the Devi!

One stormy day in 1877, we were heading towards the Bermuda Triangle. Captain John Briggs was an experienced sailor and captain. Captain John and his crew members including his wife Mary and 2 year old daughter Sophie, were on their way when suddenly there was a huge crash against the side of the ship followed by a deafening moan. They all blocked our ears in pain. Suddenly, five huge tentacles came right out of the water and grabbed Sophie and dragged her under.......

We had a cargo of rum and Tequila but suddenly we heard an eerie, unhuman screeching sound. It almost burst my ear drums.Suddenly a huge head popped out of the star board side of the ship and it grabbed me so that I couldn't breathe.
