The final session will be held at Nadia's studio in Maddington. Nadia is an ex-student who is providing this service for free just to give something back to the school community.

Year 4 / 5 Sleepover

sleepover.jpgThe Year 4 / 5 class had a fantastic time at our school sleepover last Friday night. The boys slept in the classroom while the girls pretended to be asleep in the library. Early on Saturday morning, we went for a bushwalk around Orange Grove and returned just in time for a delicious pancake breakfast. Yum!

Thanks to the many helpers who made this special evening possible.

An interview with Andy Griffiths

Andy_Griffiths.jpgAndy Griffiths is Australia's top-selling children's author. He has written some of the country's most loved children's books, including Just Crazy, the Day My Bum Went Psycho, the Schooling Around series and the Bad Book.

The Year 4 / 5 class had been reading some of Andy's books, so we contacted him to see whether he would be willing to be interviewed by the students. Andy kindly obliged, taking part in a telephone interview from his home state of Victoria.

Andy shares a number of amusing anecdotes about how he became a writer and where his inspiration comes from. You can listen to a recording of the interview in Episode 21 of our school podcast, Podkids Australia.

Australian Animal Research

Year 5 student Mikayla has been researching the extremely rare Bundera Cape Range Remipede. This animal is so recently discovered that there is practically no information available about them.

To complete her project, Mikayla had to directly contact the curator of the West Australian Museum. She then presented her findings to the class (and now the world) as a slideshow.

Creative Students

This week, students in the Year 4 / 5 class have been using the Scratch programming language as a tool for enhancing creativity while learning vital maths, logic and technical skills.
For example, Year 5 student Owen has created this maze game. Click on the picture to play Owen's game online.
